At National Dental Douglaston, we provide preventative and maintenance services to keep your mouth happy and healthy. In order to achieve this goal, we use the most up to date and state of the art technology and techniques, including the intraoral camera.
WHAT IS THE INTRAORAL CAMERA?
The intraoral camera is essentially a high-tech version of the small metal handheld mirror that you are used to seeing on our tray of tools. This electronic device is about the same size as a large pen, and contains a small camera. The intraoral camera is connected to a computer, which displays the interior of your mouth in real time. It provides us with many advantages over the traditional manual mirror.
With the intraoral camera, early intervention has never been easier. Along with real time imaging, we can also capture stills. We can then zoom in on suspect areas without the need to hold the camera in your mouth for long periods of time. The images can be enhanced, displayed in black and white, color, or even in negative. All of these features make it easy to spot issues in their early stages, so that we can take action to prevent serious complications later.
TAKE A GLIMPSE INSIDE YOUR MOUTH
When you have to sit in the chair and listen to us describe what we see, or explain the severity of the situation, it can be difficult for you to imagine, or even believe, what we are telling you. You might not think the issue is that serious. With the intraoral camera, you can see exactly what we see, which will help you better understand your diagnosis and your treatment options.
IMAGES ARE EASILY STORED
Your dental files are stored in computer file, rather than the bulky paper files of the past. The images taken with the intraoral camera can also be stored in this location. This prevents the images from getting lost or damaged. We don’t have to dig through your file to find past images. They can be pulled up quickly, and compared side by side with your latest pictures, allowing us to monitor changes.
TAKE A MORE ACTIVE ROLE
Any images we take can be printed out for you to take home. This allows you to take a more active role in your own dental care. The images show you exactly what we found during your examination. As soon as you notice a change in your mouth, you can call us right away. By catching issues early, you can be spared from less invasive treatments.
EASING YOUR DENTAL FEARS
Many people fear coming to the dentist because they hear sounds, and feel their mouths being prodded, but they have no idea what is going on. All of the stimulation can make you feel anxious and overwhelmed. With the intraoral camera, you can see exactly what we’re doing, as we are doing it. Your fears and anxieties can be put to rest, and you can remain comfortable through the duration of your exam or treatment.
With the intraoral camera, not only can we take a closer look inside your mouth, you can too. Contact National Dental Douglaston today at (718) 557-9882 for more information.
