Oral Sedation

IV oral sedation at National Dental DouglastonOral sedation, which includes such medications as lorazepam, diazepam, and alprazolam, is a type of moderate conscious sedation. With this type of sedation, you take a prescription medication by mouth, which makes you calm and drowsy. You may not even be able to remember parts, or even all, of the procedure (which can be a nice benefit if you are exceptionally anxious).

With oral sedation, you take the prescribed medication an hour before your scheduled procedure. It is essential that you have someone to drive you to (and from) your appointment. The medication takes approximately 30 minutes to kick in, but the exact length of time it takes varies. Once your procedure is done, you can go home to rest, but it may take a while for the effects to wear off completely.
